Darren O’Brien

Darren O’Brien is Vice President, Exploration for BCGold Corp. and has over 17 years experience in the mineral exploration industry. His previous role was Director Exploration for Thompson Creek Metals. He is a registered Professional Geologist with a Bachelor of Science in Geology from the University of Alberta.

Prior to the acquisition by Thompson Creek, Darren was Vice President Exploration for Terrane Metals Corp, a British Columbia based exploration company that successfully raised over $145 million on the TSX-V for the development of its Mt. Milligan and Berg projects. 

Previously Darren worked for Placer Dome as Senior Exploration Geologist in the Strategic Development Group.  In this position he conducted evaluations on advanced stage projects in Central Asia, Alaska, Caribbean, and Canada.  From 1996 to 2000, Darren played a key role in the development of the Donlin Creek Project in Alaska from an early-stage exploration project to a multi-million ounce gold deposit.  He has advanced several projects to positive production decisions including Pueblo Viejo (Dominican Republic) and Mt. Milligan (British Columbia).

Darren believes that a sustainable mineral exploration industry is essential for a healthy Canadian economy.
