Dr. Andrew Davies is active in the Vancouver mining community, has been active with AME BC as a member of the Roundup organising committee and co-taught the Volcanology and Breccias shortcourse at Roundup from 2006 to 2008. He currently serves as a volunteer on Geoscience B.C.’s Technical Advisory Committee. Andrew is a passionate advocate for geoscience education and the potential for mineral exploration and discovery in British Columbia.
After receiving his BSc from the University of British Columbia Andrew completed his PhD at CODES (Centre of Excellence in Ore Deposits) at the University of Tasmania. His PhD research focused on the evolution of the Kelian breccia-hosted epithermal gold deposit in Indonesia.
Dr. Davies is currently Teck’s General Manager, Exploration for North America based in Vancouver, B.C.. Andrew has been involved in the business of mineral exploration since 1987 and has worked in a number of Canadian jurisdictions including BC, the Yukon and the NWT as well as internationally. Prior to joining Teck in 2004 Andrew worked for AngloGold in Peru, Kennecott in Western Canada and Central America as well as Cominco and several junior companies in Western and Northern Canada. Since joining Teck in 2004 he has worked in a variety of exploration roles in Canada, South America and Turkey, including the position of Chief Geoscientist North America, prior to being appointed to his current role in mid-2007.
