Jonathan Buchanan

Director, Communications & Public Affairs

Jonathan joined AME BC in 2005. Jonathan grew up in the mining town of Elliot Lake, Ontario, and first moved to BC to study at the University of British Columbia, graduating with a B.A. in Geography. In addition to a background in communications for the mineral exploration and mining sector, Jonathan has studied, lived, and worked in Japan, and is the author of Inside the Torii Gate: The Journal of an Exchange Student in Japan.

As Director, Communications & Public Affairs, Jonathan is responsible for AME BC communications including publications, media relations, health and safety awareness and awards, and presentations to industry and governments. As Editor of AME BC’s magazine, Mineral Exploration, Jonathan works with the Editorial Board to select themes and story lines that reflect the interests of the readership.

Jonathan is a member of the International Association of Business Communicators and is on the Health & Safety Committee of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. He has received the Advanced Communicator Bronze award from Toastmasters International, and serves on the executive of VanCore Toastmasters.

Jonathan lives with wife Joanna and their two children in Delta.
