| Vote Mining on May 2! |
| |
| A federal election has been called for Monday, May 2, and AME BC encourages its members to Vote Mining. Ask your election candidate how they would: - Expedite the permitting and project review process
- Ensure access to the land & public mineral resources
- Create incentives for mineral exploration & mining
- Support geoscience & infrastructure investment
- Attract and retain skilled workers
At a federal level, AME BC, along with its partners in the Canadian Mineral Industry Federation, encourages the government to make the Mining Exploration Tax Credit (METC) permanent. Tax stimulants like the Mineral Exploration Tax Credit (METC) promote private sector investment in high risk ventures, and permanency of METC will promote stability and long term investment confidence. The METC has been extended on a regular basis for almost a decade since the return on investment has been shown to be approximately 2.6:1 (Finance Canada study). Temporary annual renewal or extension of the stimulants skews or inhibits investments decisions, creates uncertainty in the market, and is wasteful of everyone’s (including government’s) time and money. METC expired on March 31, 2011, as Budget 2011 was not passed in the House of Commons. For further information on METC as well as a link to Elections Canada, visit the advocacy page of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada at http://pdac.ca/pdac/advocacy/index.html. |

| Thomas Kloet, CEO, TMX Group - Speech to the Toronto Board of Trade |
| |
| Excerpt from speech by Thomas Kloet, CEO, TMX Group, to the Toronto Board of Trade, April 4 Last Saturday, I addressed a group of Latin American finance ministers and business leaders following the annual meeting of the Inter-American Development Bank in Calgary. I spoke of the unique opportunity for investment and capital-raising this country represents. Of our leadership in mining and resources. And of Canada’s expertise at evaluating and funding these types of companies. I promoted the broad eco-system of professionals who support these sectors across Canada – the bankers, lawyers, analysts, geologists, advisors and other professionals who make up the Canadian capital marketplace and financial system. I discussed Canada’s leadership in financing small and early-stage companies through public markets – a true Canadian competitive advantage. And, I told them of the strength, stability and future promise of Canada’s financial system overall. I am proud to represent Canada, proud of this country’s strengths, proud of the exchange group I am privileged to lead and proud of our contribution to Canada’s international competitiveness. Canada’s future is bright. Its financial sector is respected. Its leadership in key areas recognized. And, our exchanges are strong and getting stronger. Continue Reading+ |

BC Mining Labour Shortage Task Force Update Explore for More Videos, BC Mining Blog |
| |
| Continuing the Task Force’s work on Branding of the BC Mining Industry, the Task Force is creating initiatives that would both increase knowledge and support for the BC mining industry in general, as well as encouraging employment within it. Licensed with the national Mining Industry Human Resource Council (MIHR) with the brand “Explore for More British Columbia” the committee originally debuted Explore for More British Columbia: A Career In Mining Is More Than Think brochures which features inserts that overview the related industries and a diversity of career profiles. The mining industry blog first topic winners were presented with their winning cheque on March 22, 2011. The topic was exploration. Congratulations to UBC Earth and Ocean Sciences bloggers for being the first topic winners. The prize was $500 for the group. The team has already dedicated a portion of their winnings to the Japanese Earthquake and Tsunami Relief Fund. Way to give back UBC Earth and Ocean Science! As a reminder, the BC Mining Blog is the first in B.C. Its target audience is students, trades workers and the general public and was launched during this Roundup 2011. Generous donations from Teck Corporation (gold sponsor), Association for Mineral Exploration BC (silver), and the Aggregate Producer’s Association of B.C. (bronze) provides prizes for schools and students that demonstrate considerable quality involvement in the blog. Visit the blog and join the dialog at www.bcminingblog.com. The Explore for More BC videos, a highly professional video set, were launched at PDAC and features the mining industry in three parts including: the importance of minerals; careers in mining; and the culture of mining. Check them out at http://www.youtube.com/user/bcminingblog. These videos are available for use and can be downloaded at http://www.repclips.com/efmbc. The “Task Force” is a multi stakeholder organization including Provincial and National Sector Associations, First Nations organizations, employee representatives, Education and Training institutions, and mining companies. Its mandate is to develop and oversee implementation of a strategy to address labour shortages in the mining industry. |

| On Tuesday, April 05, 2011, Geoscience BC Released Two Publications at the BC Unconventional Gas Technical Forum. Funding for both publications was provided, in part, by the Montney Water Project, a collaborative effort between Geoscience BC, industry partners and the BC government, with support from the BC Oil and Gas Commission's SCEK Fund. Geoscience BC Report 2011-7 and BC Ministry of Energy and Mines, Energy Open File 2011-1 Preliminary bedrock topography and drift thickness of the Montney Play area
by A.S. Hickin (BC Ministry of Energy and Mines)
Cartography by M.A. Fournier (MAF Geographix) Five maps from the Montney Play Area of northeast British Columbia are presented that depict bedrock topography, drift thickness, modern, interpretation of paleovalleys, and density of bedrock contact point data. The bedrock topography has been modelled based on ~1500 subsurface data records from several shallow subsurface data sources including: water well data from British Columbia Ministry of Environment and Prairie Farmers Rehabilitation Administration, several academic sources (Rutter, 1977; Mathews, 1978, 1980; Hartman, 2005; Hartman and Clague, 2008), and geological sections logged from exposures in the Murray, Pine, and Pouce Coupe river valleys and more than 500 surface observations stations from fieldwork and aerial photographs. Geoscience BC Map 2011-08-1 and BC Ministry of Energy and Mines, Energy Open File 2011-2 Compilation of Geological Survey of Canada surficial geology maps for NTS 94A and 93P
by A.S. Hickin (BC Ministry of Energy and Mines) and M.A. Fournier (MAF Geographix) The map presented is a compilation of surface materials from two previously published 1:250 000 surficial geology maps completed by the Geological Survey of Canada. The extent, geometry, and interpretation of surface material polygons has not been changed from the original maps with the exception of those along the map boundary. Polygon labels have been modified and summarized to conform to the Geological Survey of Canada's preliminary national surficial geology legend. |
