AME BC Sponsored Toy Drive a Success The 7th Annual Diamonds North Toy Drive was a huge success raising over $7,500 in cash and toy donations.

Your Association at Work Natural Resources Road Act During the fall, AME BC has participated in consultation regarding proposed legislation called the Natural Resource Road Act. The BC Government News Release dated October 17, 2011 sets out the following: “ The Natural Resource Road Act Project aims to establish a single legislative framework for the use construction, maintenance and management of resources roads. This simplified process will create certainty about rules and regulations, and provide consistency for all sectors and resources roads users.” The Discussion Paper dated November 2011 sets out the following: “The Act will provide common requirements and responsibilities regarding construction, maintenance and use of resources roads in a manner that is reasonable and fair for all concerned with due consideration for the public interest and the environment.” For more information http://www.for.gov.bc.ca/mof/nrra/
Access to the land is a base value on which the province’s mineral exploration sector relies on. AME BC fundamentally believes that all roads, especially resource roads, should be considered a public asset and therefore should be retained for the use by all British Columbians. AME BC believes that government should be developing stronger policies around road stabilization and limited liability, and that road deactivation should be undertaken only as a last resort. AME BC supports any efforts by government to provide additional information and opportunities for further review and input. Read AME BC’s December 15 submission to government here.

Mineral Exploration News Island History Worth Its Weight in Gold - From the Nanaimo Bulletin
December 12 Vancouver Island had a gold rush once.
When the precious metal was discovered in the Leech River in 1864, prospectors stampeded onto southern Vancouver Island.
The rush sparked the birth of Leechtown, a community nearly as short-lived as the gold rush itself. Leechtown's population mushroomed to about 5,000, but by 1866 most of the gold was gone with the people who left behind a virtual ghost town.
"There was 200,000 ounces of gold taken off the Leech River in a year," said Barry Foster, a Nanaimo placer miner. "It was one of the fastest-growing, fastest-dying gold rush towns in British Columbia and almost nobody knows about it."

Monday, December 12, 2011 - The Mira Geoscience Advanced Geophysical Interpretation Centre has completed 3D inversion modelling, integration, and visualization of airborne gravity and magnetic data for the QUEST-South regional area in south-central British Columbia, Canada. This project is an enhanced continuation of the completed Geoscience BC inversion modelling in the QUEST survey area. The objective of this work is to provide useful 3D physical property products and accessible knowledge for the exploration of different resources in BC following the release of the data sets.
This work considers all airborne gravity and magnetic data available for the QUEST-South project area. The inversions were performed using the UBC-GIF GRAV3D and MAG3D suite of algorithms. The products are 3D inversion models of density contrast, magnetic susceptibility and integrated products combining the individual physical property models. The extensive set of digital deliverable products that accompany this report include: physical property cut-off isosurfaces, observed and predicted data, and the inversion models in several commonly used formats. A suite of 3D PDF scenes has been produced to aid in visualization and communication. The deliverables from this project are consistent with past project deliverables allowing seamless regional exploration in south-central BC.
The gravity and magnetic data were modelled in 3D using 9 tiles after separation of regional signal. The tiles were combined to construct a detailed model over the whole area. Final density contrast and magnetic susceptibility models were integrated into a Common Earth Model ready for 3D-GIS analysis, interpretation, and integration with geologic, drillhole, and other geophysical information. The resulting physical property models provide guidance to the regional structure, prospective geology and location of alteration and mineralization and can be used to guide regional targeting and help design more detailed, follow-up data acquisition. The inclusion of geologic or physical property information in the inversion from maps, drillholes, and samples was not within the scope of this project, although it is expected that the integration of these data would improve the resulting models, especially at the local scale.

Report 2011-16: "The Characteristics, Origin and Exploration Potential for Sediment-Hosted Cu±Ag Mineralization in the Purcell Supergroup, Canada Large cratonic basins filled with immature siliciclastic sediments are excellent source regions for sediment-hosted copper deposits. The Mesoproterozoic Belt-Purcell basin has sedimentary rock thickness of at least 19 km within the central part of the basin in BC and up to 18 km in the U.S. This large thickness of sediment was deposited in a relatively rapid period, leading to the formation of numerous sediment-hosted stratabound Cu-Ag occurrences in the quartzite-dominated Revett Formation. These deposits, including Troy, Rock Creek and Montanore, are all located in western Montana; however, evidence for sediment-hosted copper mineralization has recently been identified in southeastern British Columbia. The survey area roughly coincides with the QUEST-Northwest Block 2 geophysical survey outline. The new sampling in the Dease Lake area has expanded slightly and coincides with the QUEST-Northwest Block 1 geophysical survey area (see map below). The geochemical reanalysis survey area northeast of Telegraph Creek remains unchanged.
Several sediment-hosted copper occurrences from the Cranbrook area were examined in detail as part of this project. U-Pb geochronology samples were collected in order to better constrain the age of these mineral occurrences. An important factor limiting exploration and development in the area is the limited bedrock exposure due to thick deposits of glacial drift. Fifty samples of lodgepole pine bark were collected to test biogeochemical exploration for concealed mineralization.
The QUEST-Northwest Project is a geoscience initiative designed by Geoscience BC to stimulate exploration interest and investment in the northwest part of the Province, and to enhance the success of exploration activities in the region. It currently includes three separate activities: airborne geophysical surveys, a regional ground geochemical program and bedrock geological mapping. In addition to the new high-resolution airborne surveys in the north, an airborne magnetic data compilation project is in development in the Stewart area to the south.

Report 2011-17: "Prophyry Indicator Minerals (PIMS): A New Exploration Tool for Concealed Deposits in South-Central British Columbia"AME BC Announces New & Renewed Corporate Members
The common occurrence of resistate minerals, such as apatite, rutile, titanite and titanomagnetite, as alteration products in BC porphyry copper deposits suggest that these minerals could be utilized as porphyry indicator minerals (PIMS) and potentially provide a new exploration tool for BC explorers. The research project evaluated several resistate minerals but focused mainly on apatite and Fe-oxide phases from the Highland Valley, Mt. Polley, Mount Milligan, Huckleberry, Lorraine and Endako porphyry deposits. This project has successfully recognized, characterized and documented the occurrence, types, relative abundances and compositions of selected resistate minerals in several BC porphyry deposits, such that the "proof of concept" of PIMS has been established. The authors can now recognize features of resistate minerals that indicate their association with mineralized porphyry systems. This tool will be particularly beneficial in improving exploration targeting in terrains covered by glacial till.
For more information on this project, go to www.geosciencebc.com/s/2009-009.asp.
In Memoriam John Zigarlick John Zigarlick, Nuna Logistics' Chairman, passed away suddenly on December 17, 2011. "As founder and Chairman, John Zigarlick was the pillar of the Company. John's passion about the North and its development was an inspiration to us all. He will be missed by many of us who saw him as a mentor and friend," said Mervyn Hempenstall, CEO of Nuna Logistics Limited, early today. Amongst his numerous achievements, John will be best remembered for the pioneering spirit he demonstrated in 1980 in the concept, planning and execution of placing Echo Bay's Lupin gold mine into production. Echo Bay developed from a small silver producer with a net worth of $7 million in 1979, to a corporation with a 1995 market capitalization of approximately $2 billion. Mr. Zigarlick spent 21 years in the employment of Echo Bay Mines Ltd., including 16 years as President and CEO.
