   Held annually since 1969, the CMA conference attracts analysts, supervisors and managers of laboratories whose primary work is mineral & elemental analysis, generally for mines and smelting industries.  The conference usually attracts 20-30 exhibitors of analytical laboratory supplies and instruments, and conference delegates with a total attendance of approximately 100-140.  While the social side of this conference & exhibition is extremely important for the networking of delegates, there is always a workshop, technical presentations, and it’s a fantastic opportunity to meet with such a large number of vendors for laboratory equipment and supplies.  Some vendors travel from as far away as Australia to attend this conference & exhibition.

7. September 21, 2010 - Information Session: Proposed Mineral Tenure Act Regulation Amendments

   The Ministry of Energy, Mines and Petroleum Resources is responsible for administering and regulating the acquisition and maintenance of mineral, placer and coal rights in British Columbia.

   The Ministry is pursuing amendments to the Mineral Tenure Act Regulation (MTA Regulation). These amendments are in follow-up to consultations held in 2008 regarding a review of the mineral title acquisition and maintenance process. As a result of this review, a new fee structure and revised annual exploration work requirements are being proposed to ensure effective exploration and development of the province’s mineral resources.
   The Ministry invites representatives from the Association for Mineral Exploration British Columbia (AMEBC) to an information session on proposed changes to the MTA Regulation.

    The Workshop will focus on various aspects of rare earth elements (lanthanides, Y and Sc) and other rare metals (mainly Nb, Ta, Li, Be, Zr, Hf) with an emphasis on:

    • ore deposits, mineralizing processes, ore controls, applied mineralogy
    • review of major North American (mainly Canadian) deposits
    • emerging and established exploration methods
    • metallurgical constraints
    • markets and demand

    Technical and scientific presentations by university, industry and government specialists will provide registrants with a state of the art update on a variety of mineralization types associated with peralkaline intrusions, carbonatites, peraluminous rocks and pegmatites, as well as the rare earth element contents of phosphate-related mineralization and lithium content brines. Papers describing the geology of international world class exploration projects and market summaries will also be presented.
