Request for Permitting Experiences and Examples

| AME BC works hard to represent our members in relations with government agencies such as the Ministry of Energy, Mines & Petroleum Resources. To do this effectively we need to hear from you. AME BC is asking our members to send us your permitting and / or enforcement experiences and examples of where processes are working well, and what issues and challenges you are facing. In the past, as a result from this type of feedback from our members, AME BC has been able to present strong arguments and suggestions, backed up by relevant examples, when meeting with government officials. It is important that that examples include as much detail as possible including time frames and correspondence where possible. As you know, we need to be as factual and relevant as possible when presenting our case to government. All submitted feedback will be kept confidential and anonymous, unless approval has been obtained first. By letting us know your experiences, you will help shape our discussions going forward to be more effective. To submit your experiences, or if you have any questions, please contact: Laureen Whyte

Keep your Little Ghouls and Goblins Safe this Halloween!

| Halloween is an exciting day for many children and adults alike. This year, keep all your little Ghouls and Goblins safe by reviewing these safety tips: Halloween Candy - Inspect everything your child brings home before they even get a chance to eat any of it.
- Check the ingredients if your child has any food allergies.
- Look for choking hazards, including hard candy and chewing gum, if you have younger children.
- Throw out unwrapped treats or anything that looks like it may have been opened or tampered with.
Costumes - Flame resistant material is important. A child’s costume can easily brush against a lighted candle and catch fire which is why costumes should always be made of flame resistant materials.
- Make sure the costume fits well. A costume that is too long or baggy can drag on the ground causing a child to trip or get it caught in something, which could lead to a serious injury.
- Good Ventilation is very important. Tight masks and other head gear can cause lightheadedness and dizziness, as well as be very uncomfortable.
On the Road - On Halloween evening and night, avoid driving in subdivisions when most trick-or-treating takes place.
- Stay well below the speed limit and give yourself extra time to get to your destination.
- Pay extra attention to what is going around you. Be conscious of sidewalks and roadways and watch for any children darting across the street or in between parked cars.
- When pulling in or out of driveways stay alert of your surroundings.

WHERE Challenge Student Contest

The WHERE Challenge national contest is endorsed by the Canadian Earth sciences community and asks students aged 10 - 14 years to discover the answers to questions like “what on Earth is in your stuff” and “WHERE on Earth does it come from?” There are thousands of dollars in regional and national prizes to be won and students can enter as groups, individuals or a school. Entries can be anything that tells a story, such as a poster, a dance, a song, a play, a video, a multi-media presentation. The more original, the better. Winning entries may be used as promotional tools to demonstrate how non-renewable Earth resources are essential to our everyday lives. For more information on the WHERE Challenge and to view the video “Why Minerals Matter to You”, visit http://www.earthsciencescanada.com/where/# The contest runs from September 8, 2009 to March 1, 2010.

Report on 1D Inversion Modelling of the Quest West Helicopter-Borne AeroTEM System Electromagnetic Data

Geoscience BC has released Report 2009-18 "Report on 1D Inversion Modelling of the QUEST-West Helicopter-Borne AeroTEM System Electromagnetic Data". This report describes the EM1DTM Inversion modelling carried out on the AeroTEM electromagnetic data from Geoscience BC's QUEST-West Project. Data collected over the two large-scale blocks of the QUEST-West area and the six infill areas (Huckleberry, Bell, Granisle, Equity Silver, Endako and Morrison) were inverted to produce pseudo 3D resistivity models. The UBC-GIF EM1DTM code was used to produce a 1D resistivity model at each sounding location. These 1D models were then concatenated to produce a 2D image of the subsurface along the survey lines. Two-dimensional lines were then displayed in 3D space. Geoscience BC Report 2009-18 can now be downloaded through the Data Releases section of Geoscience BC's website (www.geosciencebc.com).
