Policy Overview
We all share a common interest and passion to see responsible mineral exploration and mining thrive in British Columbia and around the world. AME BC members have determined the top seven priority issues for the BC mineral exploration community to be: Aboriginal engagement, economic incentives, geoscience, human resources, infrastructure, land access & use, and permitting.
To support the development of sound public policy related to these seven issues, AME BC has embarked on a new path to develop guiding principles based on input from working committees made up of volunteer experts, Board members, and staff. To date, the Board has approved guiding principles in the key areas of health and safety, uranium and thorium exploration, land use, aboriginal relations, and the environment.
There are two main purposes for developing principles. The first is to clearly describe the views and interests of AME BC’s members to the public and government in a transparent manner. Second, the guiding principles will serve as goals for AME BC members, committees and staff.
The grassroots and expert knowledge provided by BC’s prospectors, explorers and miners will directly inform and shape AME BC’s principles and improve our ability to create change. Going forward, AME BC will be hosting a policy forum annually at its Mineral Exploration Roundup conference to review existing guiding principles, consider amendments, and/or develop new principles that will direct the policy positions and statements that AME BC puts forward on behalf of its members.
