Community
Although WIM is essentially a networking organization, we have all felt a strong need to take part in the community and support various causes. WIM Vancouver have:
- participated in the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure
- supported microfinance in South Africa, through the Townships Project
- involved our members in Networking Evenings for University students
- promoted Career Prep for High School students
- donated to Mining for Miracles
Since 2007 the Vancouver WIM have organized a cross-Canada team for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation CIBC Run for the Cure. Each year, 2007, 2008 and 2009 approximately 60 women from coast-to-coast, Vancouver to St John’s have taken part in the Run, and each year we have raised just over $30, 000, for a total of approximately $100,000 to date!

The Women in Mining Team was personally thanked for our efforts in the following letter:
Thank you to the Women in Mining Team- CIBC Run for the Cure - Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
Thank you certificate - Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation
Together with the WIM Toronto Group, the Vancouver WIM undertook fundraising for the Townships Project, a microfinance institution in the Townships of South Africa. Starting with the Cambridge Conference, Roundup and finally at the PDAC more than 40 volunteers signed on and worked hard to raise over $50,000.
WIM have always taken part in various Networking Evenings for students, even before this event became regular part of Roundup. Career Prep for High school students has been promoted through WIM. And each year the extra funds collected at the WIM Reception have been donated to Mining for Miracles.
