The 27th annual Mineral Exploration Roundup took place from January 18 to 21, 2010. The theme of Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010 was “Go for the Gold and Everything Else”.

Roundup offered members of the global mineral exploration community many reasons to be optimistic: short courses, keynote addresses, technical sessions, and field trips. “

2010 Highlights

Trade Show

The Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010 Trade Show took place Monday, January 18 – Thursday, January 21, 2010 from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Over 260 exhibitors participated in the Trade Show over 4 days, including exploration and mining companies, service and supply companies, post-secondary institutions, government organizations, First Nations groups, industry associations, and more!

Technical Program

Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010 showcased a strong lineup of technical sessions, such as the Commodities Overview, from the Front End of Exploration: Mineral Deposits that Matter; The Power of Public Geoscience; International Case Studies: Risk to Reward, and more. Ten short courses were also offered, such as Aboriginal Engagement and Mineral Exploration – Managing your Prospects; Introduction to Mineral Resources Estimates; Exploration & Mining 101, many of which quickly sold out. Field trips around Vancouver, to Mount Polley and Quinsam Coal, provide opportunities to experience British Columbia’s geology and mineral exploration and mining community first-hand.

Core Shack, Map Tent, Prospectors’ Tent

Cornerstones of Mineral Exploration Roundup, the Core Shack, Map Tent, and Prospectors’ Tent were very successful. The Core Shack ran Tuesday, January 19, 2010 to Thursday, January 21, 2010 and was open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The Map Tent ran the length of Roundup, from Monday, January 18 to Thursday, January 21, 2010 was open from 9:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. The Prospectors’ Tent ran Monday, January 18, 2010 to Thursday, January 21, 2010 and was open from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. This tent provided an opportunity for BC and Yukon based prospectors to present their diverse mineral properties to the delegates attending Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010.

Social Program

Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010 had a variety of social events throughout and following the conference. The receptions, dinners, social gatherings, and our annual hockey challenge and curling bonspiel provided opportunities to mingle and network with fellow delegates from around the world. Our student-industry networking event provided opportunities for students and employers to meet and discuss career opportunities. Our Awards Night honoured individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the mineral exploration and mining sector, and featured a Silent Auction that benefits the Mineral Resources Education Program of BC.

Mineral Exploration Health & Safety Initiatives

AME BC was pleased to announce that prostate cancer screening would return for a third year at Mineral Exploration Roundup 2010 on Tuesday, January 19, and Wednesday, January 20. AME BC also honoured the 2008 recipient of the Safe Day Everyday Gold Award and the David Barr Award recipient at the Annual Health & Safety Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, January 20, 2010.
