Field Trips

Field Trip 1 – Silver Deposits and the Northern Lights

This trip will depart from Whitehorse, Yukon and visit Alexco’s Bellekeno silver mine located in the historic silver-rich district of Keno. Bellekeno is Canada’s only operating primary silver mine and it’s among the world’s highest-grade silver mines. This trip will feature an underground tour of the silver veins of the Keno Hill district as well as a guided tour of the Bellekeno mine site. The trip will depart from Whitehorse on the morning of Saturday, January 21 and return to Whitehorse that evening. Delegates are responsible for their own flight arrangements to and from Whitehorse as well as their own hotel accommodations in Whitehorse.  Direct flights from Vancouver to Whitehorse take approximately 2 hours.


 

Field Trip 2 – Copper Mountain’s Copper Porphyry

Delegates will depart from The Westin Bayshore promptly at **7:00 am (this time has been updated. it is not departing at 7:30 as previously posted) on Friday, January 27 and will travel by chartered bus to the mine site, near Princeton BC. This trip features a tour of Copper Mountain’s open pit porphyry copper mine, which commenced full production in June 2011. The Copper Mountain Project consists of a 5 billion pound copper resource outlined in a newly designed “super pit” that is encompasses 3 historically mined smaller pits. Participants will be guided through a geological tour of the pit walls, and will tour the core shack and the milling facilities. During the return to Vancouver, a stop will be made at the famous Hope Slide. Be prepared for spectacular scenery as the tour will go through the Cascade Range along the Crowsnest Highway. Delegates will return to the Westin Bayshore by chartered bus at approximately 9:00 pm on Friday, January 27.
